<牧民学院与研究院>
今天牧民学院为3位10月份寿星庆生，同时也给在研究院当主任17年的耶稣会林伟才神父欢送会。
林神父终于与我们相聚，描述他心脏病与手术的个人体验，惊险百出......又是屠妖节前夕，当然就享用了传统印度餐咯！

蘇發聯修士履歷
1952 生於馬來西亞檳城北海，祖籍福建永定。
1973 宣發初願為聖母昆仲會修士。
1978 馬來亞大學中文系文學士。
1979 馬來亞大學教育文憑。
1978－1994 任教聖母昆仲會學校。
1987－88 馬六甲德肋撒堂區中四班主日學講授《宗徒大事錄》。
1989－94 怡保聖米高堂區每主日給教理導師講授《福音》。
1995－97 赴美國芝加哥天主教聯合神學院讀神學碩士課程，主修《新約》。
1998－2006 任職香港思高聖經學會編輯/講師。
1999 講授《新約社會文化》。
2000 《新約社會文化》編寫成書。
2001 任職菲律賓Marbel聖母大學客座講師，教授《舊約導論》和《福音中的耶穌》。
2003 《新約社會文化》增訂再版。
2004－05 在香港教區教理中心教授《梅瑟五書》、《四部福音》和《宗徒大事錄》。
2004 《福音世界：甲年主日讀經探意》出版。
2004－05 聖體年在馬六甲、新山、北賴、巴冬丁宜、檳城、章崙、星加坡、香港講授《歡宴天國：從路加福音看感恩祭》。
2005 《歡宴天國》與《福音世界：乙年主日讀經探意》出版。
2006 給怡保教友講授《四部福音》。
2006年11月至今任甲柔教區聖經使徒培育中心講師，教授三年制新馬汶主教團中文聖經文憑課程。

<基信团工作坊>
A Workshop on methods, process and spirituality for Small Christian Communities
"Trust the Process! Trust the Process! I believe this phrase must be ringing loud and clear in the ears of the 80 odd-participants making up of 20 priests from Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines with Archbishop Nichols Chia, the Religious and Laity, at the end of the first day Workshop organized by the Singapore Pastoral Institute from 12-14 November 2008.
For me it did. It is not preaching and teaching that will be for us this 3-day workshop but that each one of us, man, woman, religious or clergy will be fully involved in this Workshop processes. This 3-day workshop led by the Resource team making up of Fr Jose Marins from Brazil with over 35 years of experience delivering training and workshops for (CELAM) the Episcopal conference of Latin America and who is one of the leading experts of Basic Christian Communities (SCC: Small Christian Communities/BEC) throughout the world. In the team with him were the very candid, serious yet engaging, Fr Gerry Proctor from England, a SCC/BEC doctoral research student at Liverpool Hope University and one who is trained in the LUMKO methodologies of SCC/BEC building.
Though this way of community building and sharing experiences in BECs is not totally new to me, there was a freshness and richness in its methodology and pedagogy. The fact of being engaged in the different steps starting with a short personal reflection of our past, our present undertakings and our future dreams and aspirations leading on to how Jesus, his disciples and the people of his time live and act in his lifetime, we were truly connected with one another. Finally like how the early Christians like St Paul, St Peter and the rest of the great early Christian personalities like Timothy and Aquila and Priscilla live their faith, call us to enter into their lives and footsteps. What truly engaged us further is how we were led by these different early Christians models of faith to interact with one another in our small groups and plenary sharing.
With each of the 5 marks of being Church and similarly being small Christian communities like 1. Community, 2. Worship, 3. Word of God, 4. Service and 5. Mission explained and led in a process and then evaluated, we became better aware of how we can live more fully ourselves as a BEC member in our neighborhood. Indeed as it is exhorted ardently and more understood since the Second Vatican Council, the Church is the people of God and it is what is meant by being a church. A church of Small Christian Communities where we share our faith, pray, support one another, continue to learn what it means to be Christian, and help one another in whatever way we can.

Living the Gospel
St Paul’s call to match words with action in First Corinthians
Kuala Lumpur: API organized a week-end seminar on 8 and 9th November 2008 presented by Dr Jeffery and Angelina Goh.
The lucky people who managed to attend this week-end seminar found First Corinthians unpacked in little easily digestable packages, organized into the 10 problems faced by the young Corinthian church.
Dr Goh distilled the best from his teachers and many years experience in the service of the church and explains how the masters (e.g. Raymond Collins) analysed each problem:
• What was the problem?
• Why was it a problem?
• How was Paul feeling when he wrote the letter?
• What was his solution?
• What was Paul’s spirituality?
• How does it apply to us, today?
Dr Jeffery used art to illustrate his points in so doing also taught religious art appreciation.
In the midst of analogies:
• The curry puffs in Kuching (did you know they are puffed full of air but little substance?) which is what we could become if we are not careful.
• Ever noticed the Microsoft ‘i’ as soon as you type it becomes ‘I’?
Many of us found the problems of the Corinthians still occur today. The spirituality of logs they are dead just going with the flow of the river is present and we have to take care not to become a log.
As participant, Robert Tan put it, too long we sing “We stand for God and for His glory …” but remain seated.
The Gohs, are taking time off from St Peter’s College, Kuching and will be available for seminars and retreats. We wish them all the best.
Note: Dr Jeffery Goh gave up his career was a Barrister-at-Law. He holds a STD/Ph.D in Sacred Theology and JCL in Canon Law from Catholic University in Laouvain, Belgium where his wife Angelina also has a STB degree in Sacred Theology and a MA in Religious Studies. They have written a book in the Living the Christian life series every year for the last 9 years. The books are available from good Catholic book-shops or contact the Kuching Diocese book-shop.

A Biblical Retreat

TIME IN THE DESERT
'Come away to some lonely place all by yourselves and rest for a while.' Quoting these words of Jesus to his weary disciples, Fr. L ’Hour began our retreat ... leading us immediately to the desert. That place which is the home of evil beings and wild animals, the domain of plundering tribes, a barren place of nothingness.
Drawing from the Scriptures Fr. depicted the desert to be a place of all beginnings and of all rebirths. It was in the desert that Jesus and the Old Testament prophets sojourned before embarking on their difficult missions. Our own times in the desert are times of testing and temptation as well as times of renewal and rebirth. Times when we either turn away from God or come away spiritually nourished and strengthened to do His will. It is only in the desert, Fr. explained, that we can discover who the Lord God is and that He is the only source of life.
Using the scriptures and the Gospel of Mark in particular as our guide, Fr. led us step by step on the paths Jesus trod. As we followed Jesus, we encountered the people he chose for company as well as the people who intruded. We met his disciples, his friends and relatives, the poor and needy, the sick, foreigners, women and children, sinners and evil spirits and those who opposed him. We observed the relationship Jesus had with his Father, a relationship we are invited to share. We felt the “failure” of Calvary and rejoiced at the triumph of Easter. We made the long march to faith and freedom with the disciples and so discovered the meaning of the Kingdom of God. Love is the law of the Kingdom, the Beatitudes, the Charter of the Kingdom and that true worship of God is to love God and others.
The retreat, held from 26th to 28th September at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, was as Rev. Dr. Clarence Dass, Director of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute, promised in his opening address. In introducing Fr. L’ Hour, he said that Fr. L’ Hour will change the way we look at the Gospels and indeed he had.
An outstanding feature of the retreat was that Fr did not resort to technology and aids such as power-point presentation. Rather his personality, the content of his talks and his skill of presentation kept audience rapt in attention.
Mrs. Rita Vias expressed, on our behalf, our thankfulness for the insightful retreat and conveyed most excellently our feelings. She reported that participants described the session as being warm and presented skillfully and in a highly spiritual manner. Even though Fr. spoke to a crowd of 140 some felt that he was speaking to them one to one.
Rita summed up the retreat experience with an analogy. She said that she thought that what Fr. had done for us in the 2 ½ days as this: we have inherited a priceless heirloom - a silver tray - handed down to us by our grandparents and parents. It is something familiar. We know it is in the house somewhere and that it is always there when we need it. We take it for granted. What Fr. has done is polish this tray (the Gospels) part by part and bring its loveliness to light. As he polished it, we began to see patterns emerging. In wrapping up the sessions with that on prayer, we were shown the whole silver tray shining forth. We now see the fresh face of Jesus in the tray and as we look we also recognize the faint shadow of our face beside His and this feels very comforting.
Fr. we pray that God will shower His choicest blessings on you and grant you many, many more years of good health so that you may continue this "polishing" mission with many more people.

TIME IN THE DESERT
'Come away to some lonely place all by yourselves and rest for a while.' Quoting these words of Jesus to his weary disciples, Fr. L ’Hour began our retreat ... leading us immediately to the desert. That place which is the home of evil beings and wild animals, the domain of plundering tribes, a barren place of nothingness.
Drawing from the Scriptures Fr. depicted the desert to be a place of all beginnings and of all rebirths. It was in the desert that Jesus and the Old Testament prophets sojourned before embarking on their difficult missions. Our own times in the desert are times of testing and temptation as well as times of renewal and rebirth. Times when we either turn away from God or come away spiritually nourished and strengthened to do His will. It is only in the desert, Fr. explained, that we can discover who the Lord God is and that He is the only source of life.
Using the scriptures and the Gospel of Mark in particular as our guide, Fr. led us step by step on the paths Jesus trod. As we followed Jesus, we encountered the people he chose for company as well as the people who intruded. We met his disciples, his friends and relatives, the poor and needy, the sick, foreigners, women and children, sinners and evil spirits and those who opposed him. We observed the relationship Jesus had with his Father, a relationship we are invited to share. We felt the “failure” of Calvary and rejoiced at the triumph of Easter. We made the long march to faith and freedom with the disciples and so discovered the meaning of the Kingdom of God. Love is the law of the Kingdom, the Beatitudes, the Charter of the Kingdom and that true worship of God is to love God and others.
The retreat, held from 26th to 28th September at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, was as Rev. Dr. Clarence Dass, Director of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute, promised in his opening address. In introducing Fr. L’ Hour, he said that Fr. L’ Hour will change the way we look at the Gospels and indeed he had.
An outstanding feature of the retreat was that Fr did not resort to technology and aids such as power-point presentation. Rather his personality, the content of his talks and his skill of presentation kept audience rapt in attention.
Mrs. Rita Vias expressed, on our behalf, our thankfulness for the insightful retreat and conveyed most excellently our feelings. She reported that participants described the session as being warm and presented skillfully and in a highly spiritual manner. Even though Fr. spoke to a crowd of 140 some felt that he was speaking to them one to one.
Rita summed up the retreat experience with an analogy. She said that she thought that what Fr. had done for us in the 2 ½ days as this: we have inherited a priceless heirloom - a silver tray - handed down to us by our grandparents and parents. It is something familiar. We know it is in the house somewhere and that it is always there when we need it. We take it for granted. What Fr. has done is polish this tray (the Gospels) part by part and bring its loveliness to light. As he polished it, we began to see patterns emerging. "In Jesus' Steps" (A Biblical Retreat for Laity)

Greetings of peace and love of our Risen Lord.
We are glad to inform you that the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute (API) will be organizing a biblical retreat for the laity with the theme: "In Jesus' Steps" which will be directed by Fr. Jean L'Hour
from 26 – 28 September 2008.
Fr L'Hour is a MEP Priest who completed his biblical studies in Rome and Jerusalem was a former lecturer of College General Major Seminary, Penang from 1961 till 1973.
This three-day retreat aims to help the laity have a deeper understanding of what it means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus through the Word of God. By His word and example, Jesus formed his disciples to be authentic disciples. This retreat will assist the laity to reflect on the Word, to allow the Holy Spirit to transform their lives, and put into practice the teachings of Jesus in their daily lives.
Outline of the Retreat:

A 'retreat' : Why should we make a retreat?
What are we to retreat from?
What for: what do we expect to gain? How?
Our road book for this retreat : walking in Jesus' footsteps, letting
ourselves be evangelized anew.

the basics of human condition.
